This is just a preview of some of the pictures Jordan Philips took of Ryan and me this past weekend. After we took pics at the wildlife reserve in Sherwood, Jordan and his wife Lianne went with us to McCormick and Schmicks...we were pretty pumped to get to hang out with them! If you want to see more of Jordan's stuff, you can view his website at http://jscottphilips.com/wordpress/

Trying to figure it out...

"She embodies what it looks like to know that life is hard, to meet opposition with courage, and to experience, express, BE ‘Shalom,’ even in a broken world." -Sister

It must be true that "His strength is made perfect is our weakness" because while these words were written about me not too long ago, I feel incredibly unworthy of them. My initial reaction was to be flattered and affirmed. This quickly transformed into feeling guilty; guilty that I had somehow duped her (and potentially others, too) into believing these things about me. I claim authenticity and yet, I portray Shalom (wholeness, peace, restoration...Jubilee, even)? I don't feel whole at all.

As I have thought about it though, and even through the process of writing this paragraph, I have come to realize that my response to her words should be neither pride nor guilt, but both praise that the Lord works through our brokenness, and passion, to continue learning what it means to play a part in bringing Shalom, "even in a broken world."

So thanks sister...for reminding me about my call to continually pursue a life that reflects Christ's love daily through all of my brokenness and insufficiencies.
